Three of Taylor Davis' newer members enjoyed some fine Gallic hospitality this week as Tony Waters from the Warwick depot and the Westbury-based duo of New Business Development team Greg Atkinson and John Jessop made a training visit to our principal suppliers Jokey France.

Whilst at the Labourse factory, 55 miles from Calais, the guys were shown the state of the art injection moulding facilities, producing a full range of hi-tech packaging from 155cc tubs up to 20 litre buckets.

All decoration options - offset litho; digital; and in-mould labelling were also in full flow.

The visitors saw the sales, despatch, engineering, planning and quality management departments whilst there; and followed the manufacturing process from delivery of the granulated polypropylene to the finished product!

Taylor Davis' first appearance at the biennial Pro2pac packaging trade fair at the ExCel in London's Docklands this week was a resounding success and further cemented our reputation as an innovative supplier that likes to "think outside the box" – Bag-In-Box in fact - as our new line was received with great interest by visitors and fellow exhibitors alike on it’s first national stage.

Product Manager Bob Bodin was pleased with the response,and said: "We were able to promote the products to a wider audience this time, and built on the success that we had last month in the ale & beer sector at the Craft Beer Rising show."

Taylor Davis’ comprehensive range of PET jars also saw many new enquiries received for these products,with the timing of the exhibition being seen as particularly opportune,shortly before the busy Easter and summer periods in the confectionary sector – one of our prime sales areas for this line.

As usual however, it was the market leading Jokey Plastik bucket and tub range that generated the most enquiries; despite the market for these products being a mature one,to say the least!

With yet more new products and innovations on display – including 1.2 & 1.6 litre ice cream containers; fitted dessert spoons in the smaller tub lids; lighter weight,more “environmentally friendly” smaller container sizes and yet further developments in decoration techniques – Taylor Davis continues to offer the best that the global market has to offer!

The Taylor Davis sales team enjoyed the full extent of German hospitality recently when they attended a two day training visit to Jokey Plastik’s manufacturing sites near to Cologne.

Following the signing last autumn of the exclusive supply contract between Taylor Davis and Jokey that continued over 30 years of growth and co-operation,the invitation was extended by our hosts for us to visit their plants and take part in a full technical workshop.

Whilst there,the team saw not only Jokey’s impressive production facilities (over a million items are produced throughout the group every day); but also decoration (offset litho; digital; in-mould labelling); Quality Management; Despatch; Planning; and Sales. 

Sales & Marketing Director Dave Rawlings said,

“The whole trip was a roaring success! Some of the guys had never visited the German Jokey factories before,and everyone was impressed by the sheer scale of the technological expertise and high level of investment there.

But it was also a fun trip as well as an informative one,and served to bring us all closer together as a team.

We also had the opportunity to be introduced to Shawn Roberts,Jokey’s new UK Sales Manager,so it was all good!”

It will also be an opportunity for us to develop new UK business,as well as allowing our continental-based colleagues at Jokey the chance to ‘network’ with some of their target ‘blue chip’ accounts from around the globe - as the World’s main players gather in London’s Docklands!

In order to officially launch our exciting new partnership with Rapak (part of the DS Smith Group) Taylor Davis are this week promoting their new range of bag-in-box packs at Craft Beer Rising - a new and funky take on the traditional beer festival format.

Product Manager Bob Bodin said "This offers a fantastic opportunity for us to focus on one of the truly key markets for bag-in-box".

To be held at The Old Truman Brewery at 91 Brick Lane,E1: East London's new arts and media quarter; Craft Beer Rising will be showcasing many of the new and innovative developments in the fast-growing independent craft brewery industry,and will also include music and some of London's top street food vendors too!

Taylor Davis will be unique to the event roll call as the only packaging supplier in attendance,and are therefore well set to directly take advantage of the present trends in the on and off trade,as these lightweight and consumer friendly packs replace traditional polypins and jerricans.  

The Bag-In-Box packaging concept remains the perfect solution to environmental considerations,composed as it is of very easily recycled components,therefore ticking all the 'green' boxes!!

Last week we took delivery of this brand new Mercedes unit and trailer to help increase our fleet capacity and improve service levels.

Taylor Davis Ltd are delighted to formally announce the signing of their exclusive supply agreement to distribute the products of Jokey Plastik GmbH throughout the UK.

This exciting event was ratified recently at an official contract signing ceremony at Jokey’s offices in Gummersbach, Germany, attended by the respective Managing Directors Mr Clive Atkinson & Herr Herbert Kemmerich; the sons of the two company’s founding fathers.
